It really pisses me off when people don't use common courtesy. While waiting to get into a classroom the other day, I held the door open for people passing through the hall so I wouldn't keep getting hit with it. I counted 32 people that walked through that doorway, and only 2 of them said thank you. Many people just looked at me like it was my job to hold the door for them, and when my classroom opened and I let go of the door, someone actually yelled out "Hey! Aren't you going to hold that open?" which I thought was rude. "Please" and "Thank you" are probably the most unused phrases in the English language now.

I agree...and after the 2nd day of dealing with this exact same issue I finally let the door slam in the bitches face...it was PRICELESS!

AMEN! A little courtesy goes a long way to making the world a little more livable.

Definitely!! People are so unappreciative now. I agree with what you said about them 'expecting you' to hold the door open "like it was my job." Unbeleivable that only TWO people said thanks.

People think of holding a door open as 'lowering themselves' and letting others go before them. So the people walking thru the door already assume they are better than you since you are serving THEM. In truth, you're the better person for being so curteous to others. Karma will reward you with good things if you DO good things. I think you have a big reward coming =]

It's because the parents of this current young generation spent sooooo many hours telling their kids how unique, special, and wonderful they are, that they think everyone else is below them. I am all for teaching my son that he is special and unique, but that does not mean he is better than anyone else. I know it makes me sound old, but most kids/teenagers today have grown up with no respect for anyone besides themselves.
