What really pisses me off is that I can't legally marry my amazingly wonderful partner. I have to refer to her as my girlfriend--I'm 25, this isn't high school--and we're considered legal strangers. What REALLY pisses me off is that I live in a backwards red state that will NEVER pass any sort of legislation to guarantee our relationship the same protections under the law as heterosexual married couples. What pisses me off even more is that people who won't allow my marriage can wed and divorce as they please, in 12 hours or less.

Here, here!

I am straight and that pisses me off. In my state a 16 year old can get married, but adults with their shit together can't because they are both innies (or outies)? Ridiculous.

Considering we are supposed to be a country with religious freedoms, why are we making laws based on religious principles? i.e. "The Bible says marriage is between a man and a woman." Or "Homosexuality goes against God."

You know what else goes against God? Not having love for your neighbor, churches for profit, and being judgmental, but hey, Jesus won't mind as long as you keep the homosexuals from having legal rights...

What religion supports homosexual marriage? don't confuse religion with denomination. Even though you don't want to accept this, our country and the vast majority of the US citizens are Christians and they disagree with homosexual marriage. What legal right does a married person have? Help me with that one. Also, you think something was ridiculous. Isn't that judgmental?? Or is it only judgmental when I think you are ridiculous.

The ignorance of "Common Sense Conservative" boggles me. Actually, it disgusts me.

I'm straight, and I don't understand how people can be so dense that they actually believe that they have the right to bring their religion into other peoples' lives and the government.

This country was founded on the principle of religious freedom. It doesn't get any more hypocritical than to say that two people can't be legally wed because of an oppressive religious belief that isn't their own.

And more simply, what harm does homosexual marriage REALLY do to anyone?

I don't know why I'm even bothering though. In my experience, anyone who opposes same-sex marriage is so ignorant, hypocritical, and rigidly set in their ways that no amount of reason, logic, or truth can ever even make it into their brains, no matter how simply it's put.

Um, just because you're Christian doesn't mean you oppose same-sex marriage.
